- I’ve always struggled with staying hydrated. I’ve never been one of those “water bottle girlies” that carries around their super trendy Yeti or Stanley cup everywhere they go. Instead, I proudly carried whatever flavor carbonated cancer drink I was into that week, bearing my unsettling eye bags and dry, reptilian skin for the world to see. That was until my husband bought me this water bottle for my birthday. Now – let me preface this with the fact that I have incredibly high standards for water bottles, solely because it’s hard to like a bottle of something you don’t like to drink. BUT – I stood no chance against Owala’s arsenal of benefits.
- The mouthpiece is seamless. You can choose to tip it up and drink it, which I will probably never do because a large part of my hatred of water bottles is caused by me tipping them up too far, thus rushing too much water into my mouth, which then spills it out of my mouth and onto myself, and that’s just not a good look for anybody. OR you can use the straw that’s attached to the mouthpiece. I LOVE the fact that the top of the straw is actually part of the lid, so I can always cap it off. Which brings me to my next point…
- Leak-proof lid. Once the lid is closed, you can shake that baby (please don’t shake babies) til kingdom come and it will NOT spill. Swoon.
- It fits in a CUPHOLDER. YES. IT DOES. There is nothing I LOATHE more on this EARTH than drinks that don’t fit in a cupholder so you just have to hold them like a dork in morning traffic. Keep your hands on 10 and 2, not a hand on 10 and a hand on your fat Yeti thermos. I said what I said.
- It keeps your drink cold. I put ice in it at 7AM and it’s still there at noon when I refill, then by 5pm my water is still bone-rattling cold. My sensitive teeth are thriving. After these past weeks of testing, it peeves me to say that Owala has turned me into your stereotypical water bottle girlie. I may leave the stove on when I leave the house, but I never leave without my Owala. My sunken eyes have risen, my skin is supple, and my kidneys have a new lease on life. I may like this hydration thing after all. Above all, I can’t recommend this water bottle enough. It truly does deserve 5 stars. Total game-changer. 🙂

- After years of owning Yeti bottles, I switched to this bottle mostly because my daughter told me about it. What I found is that it’s the best designed of all the ones out there. We briefly tried the Stanley bottles with built-in handles and straws. While those are good, I found carrying those around to be awkward, especially if I want to store them in a backpack. Enter Owala. I own three sizes for different reasons. The 40oz is the one I use daily at home. It either sits next to the bed overnight or I use it for my work day. The bottle keeps water cold for up to 48 hours. I also carry a 32oz for daily excursions. The 40oz is just too big for cup holders. The 32oz also keeps cold for up to two days. Finally, I have a 24oz that I use for travel. I love the spout. The bottle allows me to drink however I feel necessary. Normally I use the built-in straw, but there are times I’ve just wanted to chug water, and their spout allows me to do both. The cap seals extremely well. We’ve had Yeti bottles leak; Owala seems to have solved this issue quite well. Now for the bad things…. If you fill the bottle with ice water, I suggest adding the ice last. Putting ice in first causes it to stay in the lower section of the bottle, making it hard to get the straw into it.

- “I had purchased the ‘popular’ water bottle and was frustrated with the leaking whenever it tipped. Our club sports team told the girls to keep these in the hallway, away from the court, since balls would knock them over and spill water. I had seen the FreeSip at a tournament and decided to try it. I am in love with this! No leaking, easy to carry, the 40oz fits in my cup holder, and keeps water cold (ice still in it after 24 hours). The built-in straw is a game changer! Will be purchasing another for my kids.”

- Water bottle of the year!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2023
- “This is my favorite water bottle of the year! What I like about it; the option of sipping or taking a gulp. I’m very satisfied with the built-in straw, it is very easy to sip through the straw. And this is coming from someone who has had multiple bottles with built-in straws, this Owalla bottle is the best in 2023. Another great option is the option of taking a drink from the open mouth. Once again, really clever design, I never feel like I’ll actually splash any water in my face or getting it up my nose when I’m taking a larger gulp of liquid. Insulation is about average. It does the job of keeping my liquids chilled. We’ve had some incredibly hot weather here in California this year; so I’ve been putting more ice into my water. And this bottle will keep it chilled throughout the night. There are cons, I don’t like the weight. It is heavier than other insulated water bottles I’ve had. Also the cap release needs a hard push to close. I think this is something Owala needs to work on in their version 2.0. Overall I’m very happy with this bottle. It is now my daily driver replacing my Takeya. I like the design of the bottle so much, I bought the (lighter) sports version! They could improve the cap design, and hopefully they’ll do that with the next model.”

- I love this thing so much!

- “I got this based on a recommendation from a friend. I love it so much! It is made of heavy duty insulated steel and keeps my water for two or three days, if it lasts that long. When the lid is open, it had a small spout attached to a straw to drink from as well as a wider opening that can be used for pouring water into a doggy bowl. I especially love this feature as I am visually impaired with a guide dog, so I need to do this often. I am able to throw this in my purse without leakage. It has become my best friend ;)”

- Haven’t used my Stanley since I bought this
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2023
- “The FreeSip mouthpiece is by far my favorite that I’ve tried; however, it’s definitely not perfect. The lid doesn’t open without sticking, and the handle doesn’t feel sturdy enough to carry the bottle. I could see the lid needing to be replaced in less than a year. I purchased the 24 oz bc it’s advertised as being able to fit in cupholders, but it doesn’t fit in my 2008 Volkswagen cupholders, so now I regret not just buying the 32 oz instead. After a week of light use, the color is already starting to chip a bit, even though I’ve only taken it in the car twice. Purpley matches the stock photo well, unlike some of the other colorways that are definitely falsely advertised. I’m not a fan of the green/blue top and yellow straw, but I don’t want to spend a ton of money to make it aesthetically pleasing (the random dark blue button bothers me the most). Overall, this bottle makes it really easy to drink water, keeps water cold as advertised, and it’s a great buy if you can get it on sale.”

- “My husband says I have a water bottle ‘problem’….I say my ‘problem’ is that I can’t find a water bottle that fits my needs. Alas, I have found the solution. This is the best water bottle I have ever owned. 100% leakproof! I can throw it in my work bag with no leakage. It fits perfectly in my car cup holder. It keeps my water chilled all day long. And lastly it is very easy to sip from. I am going to purchase in another color, because I am obsessed with this water bottle. Thank you Owala for a great product!”

- Innovative lid, replacement lids & straws sold on the website
- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2023
- “I have a lot of containers from another company because they offer several styles of lids that are all interchangeable (chug, straws that’s close, coffee, etc.). If my husband and I want to travel and share one container there is always an argument bc he only wants chug cap and I want straw. Now this has both options! It will now be our cup for bringing to airports. The reason for 4 stars is I was surprised to read once I got it says for cold and be cautious about hot liquids. All the others have ratings for hot and cold, but this one cold only. I plan to use for water, but does make it less versatile. Someone else complained their kid break the lids (they are plastic with moving parts) and claimed they don’t sell replacements. Well, they do on the Owala website, in many colors. I think lids were $7 and straws $2. So if it breaks don’t have to waste the cup.”

- Love my Owala

- “I absolutely love my Owala Flip Sip. I bought one for work and one for home and I find I drink more water since buying these. Owala is not only top-notch at making water bottles, but the company and their owners are amazing! They recently teamed up with Make-a-Wish and sponsored my granddaughter and her family and granted her wish, a trip to Disneyworld! I will forever be an Owala fan! In fact, we just purchased 15 flip sips for all of our grandchildren for Christmas! They will love taking these to their dance practices, and games.”
