Cabbage and Sausage Skillet
Ingredients:
- 1 medium head of cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1 pound smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced into rounds
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Prep Ingredients:
- Slice Cabbage:
- Thinly slice the cabbage, removing the core.
- Slice Sausage:
- Slice the smoked sausage or kielbasa into rounds.
- Slice Onion:
- Thinly slice the onion.
Sauté Sausage:
- Cook Sausage:
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced sausage rounds and cook until they are browned on both sides. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set it aside.
Sauté Vegetables:
- Sauté Onion and Garlic:
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the thinly sliced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent.
- Add Cabbage:
- Add the thinly sliced cabbage to the skillet. Toss to combine with the sautéed onion and garlic.
- Cook Until Tender:
- Cook the cabbage for 8-10 minutes or until it becomes tender, stirring occasionally. If using, add caraway seeds and mix well.
Combine Sausage:

- Return the cooked sausage to the skillet with the cabbage. Toss everything together until well combined.

- Season with Salt and Pepper:
- Season the cabbage and sausage mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.
